Renters are disproportionately people of color and members of other groups/communities outside of what professor john a. powell (lower case intentional) describes as the “Circle of Human Concern.” Those who represent these renters in eviction cases must understand the racialized nature of the rental housing system and eviction practices, as well as the law and justice system. Consequently, as part of its mandatory training curriculum, OCLA engaged JustLeadWA and Dr. Timothy Thomas (UC Berkeley) to deliver a 2.5 hour webinar on representing tenants in a racialized housing market and legal system. You can find the YouTube video of this training here.
